Going from corporate to carpentry was the last thing I thought I'd ever do but life had other (great) plans! After graduating from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, I spent the first ten years in training/instructional design and marketing roles for technology, healthcare, and entertainment corporations. I left a marketing career with A&E and The History Channel in 2003 to spend more time with my kids. While home, I spent time doing freelance marketing as well as nanny work to help make ends meet. After doing research and discovering only two companies sold modern style toy boxes, I set out fill a marketplace void and help pay bills at the same time!
I founded Mod Mom Furniture in 2007 while teaching myself to build furniture and handling all aspects of ownership from logo design to accounting to construction. For three and a half years, I built everything (approximately 400 toy boxes) in my four hundred square foot garage until 2011 when I partnered with a manufacturer in Ohio.
As an entrepreneur, I'm blown away by the journey I've been on since 2007. I'm proud to say Mod Mom Furniture has not only been featured in magazines, TV shows like Shark Tank and The Nate Berkus Show, and modern design books but is being purchased by families, celebrities, and interior designers from around the globe.
I found a passion for writing, speaking publicly about my journey, and designing marketing collateral along the road of life and I'm grateful to be able to do it for a living, in addition to organically growing the Mod Mom brand.
Life isn't always smooth and my path to and through different phases of my mine hasn't always been clear or easy, but I continue to put my best foot forward and trust that little voice inside.
